Air Fryer Balsamic Parmesan Brussels Sprouts

With these air fryer brussels sprouts, you can get crispy goodness without excessive frying oil. It’s a quick, easy recipe that after you’ve prepped, it basically cooks itself.

If you had told me as a child how much I would love brussels sprouts as an adult, I would never have believed you. What used to be a food I would turn my nose up at, is now a food I love and crave.

A local restaurant has a fried brussels sprout appetizer, and this was my gateway into my love affair with this vegetable. Now, I’ve tried many different preparation methods, and by far, the air fryer is my favorite.

How to make brussels sprouts in the air fryer

This is an easy recipe even if you’ve never made brussels sprouts before. It is a great side dish to pair with steak, chicken, hamburgers, and more!

The ingredients

  • Brussel sprouts — Brussels sprouts are a power-packed vegetable rich in fiber and vitamin k among other nutrients. They are especially delicious when crisped up.
  • Olive oil — a light coating of olive oil will help the Brussels sprouts crisp in the air fryer while adding flavor and healthy fat to this side dish
  • Parmesan — grated Parmesan works best for this dish, but you can experiment with shredded Parmesan if you would like
  • Seasoning — Salt, pepper, and garlic powder add extra flavor and depth to this brussels sprout side dish
  • Balsamic reduction — Balsamic reduction is a sweet, syrupy treat that you can make on the stove or, to save time, you can purchase in stores

The directions

1. Rinse and place the brussels sprouts in a bowl to start preparing them to cook. To prepare the Brussels sprouts, chop off the bottom stem part. Remove any damaged leaves, and slice in half. If the half is large, you can also chop the piece again into a quarter.

This picture shows what the brussels sprouts look like after they are cleaned and chopped in half. The picture shows the sprouts on a cutting board with their bottoms cut off, outside leaves removed, and the whole sprout cut into halves.

2. Pat the Brussels sprouts dry if they have excessive water remaining on them.

3. Toss with the olive oil, salt, garlic powder, and Parmesan. Mix well with a spoon or your hands.

This picture shows the sprouts in a bowl with the parmesan, olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a smaller bowl, ready to be combined together before being placed in the air fryer.

4. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees with a timer set to 12 minutes, and once heated, add the Brussels sprouts in a single layer. If your air fryer basket is on the smaller side, consider cooking the Brussels sprouts in two batches.

5. Shake the basket at the halfway point or when your air fryer alerts you to turn the food.

6. When done, remove from the basket and drizzle with balsamic reduction. Shake on more Parmesan if you would like!

Air Fryer Balsamic Parmesan Brussels Sprouts

  • Author: Laura
  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

This easy air fryer balsamic parmesan brussels sprout recipe will pair well with multiple main protein dishes.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb. brussels sprouts, rinsed
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1/8 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp. parmesan, grated or finely shredded
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1 tbsp. balsamic reduction/glaze

Instructions

1. Place the brussels sprouts in a large bowl and rinse well under cold water.

2. On a cutting board, slice the bottoms off the brussels sprouts, cutting off the base of the stem. Remove any damaged outside leaves as well.

3. Cut the brussels sprouts in half. If any pieces are noticeably larger than the rest, cut those pieces into quarters.

4. Put the prepared sprouts into a clean bowl and pat dry to remove extra water.

5. Add the oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and parmesan to the brussels sprouts and stir to coat evenly.

6. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees and set the timer for 12 minutes. When the temperature is ready, line the air fryer basket with a single layer of brussels sprouts. If needed, you can cook the sprouts in two batches to reduce crowding.

7. After the Brussels sprouts have finished cooking, remove from the air fryer and place onto a serving tray.

8. Drizzle with balsamic reduction and serve.
