A local restaurant has a fried brussels sprout appetizer, and this was my gateway into my love affair with this vegetable. Now, I’ve tried many different preparation methods, and by far, the air fryer is my favorite.
How to make brussels sprouts in the air fryer
This is an easy recipe even if you’ve never made brussels sprouts before. It is a great side dish to pair with steak, chicken, hamburgers, and more!
The ingredients
- Brussel sprouts — Brussels sprouts are a power-packed vegetable rich in fiber and vitamin k among other nutrients. They are especially delicious when crisped up.
- Olive oil — a light coating of olive oil will help the Brussels sprouts crisp in the air fryer while adding flavor and healthy fat to this side dish
- Parmesan — grated Parmesan works best for this dish, but you can experiment with shredded Parmesan if you would like
- Seasoning — Salt, pepper, and garlic powder add extra flavor and depth to this brussels sprout side dish
- Balsamic reduction — Balsamic reduction is a sweet, syrupy treat that you can make on the stove or, to save time, you can purchase in stores
The directions
1. Rinse and place the brussels sprouts in a bowl to start preparing them to cook. To prepare the Brussels sprouts, chop off the bottom stem part. Remove any damaged leaves, and slice in half. If the half is large, you can also chop the piece again into a quarter.
2. Pat the Brussels sprouts dry if they have excessive water remaining on them.
3. Toss with the olive oil, salt, garlic powder, and Parmesan. Mix well with a spoon or your hands.
4. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees with a timer set to 12 minutes, and once heated, add the Brussels sprouts in a single layer. If your air fryer basket is on the smaller side, consider cooking the Brussels sprouts in two batches.
5. Shake the basket at the halfway point or when your air fryer alerts you to turn the food.
6. When done, remove from the basket and drizzle with balsamic reduction. Shake on more Parmesan if you would like!

Ingredients
- 1 lb. brussels sprouts, rinsed
- 1 tbsp. olive oil
- 1/8 tsp. garlic powder
- 1 tbsp. parmesan, grated or finely shredded
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. pepper

4. Put the prepared sprouts into a clean bowl and pat dry to remove extra water.
5. Add the oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and parmesan to the brussels sprouts and stir to coat evenly.

7. After the Brussels sprouts have finished cooking, remove from the air fryer and place onto a serving tray.
8. Drizzle with balsamic reduction and serve.
