Ingredients to make baked grapefruit
- Grapefruit — grapefruits are a delicious and healthy fruit, and this article discusses 10 benefits of grapefruit. This low calorie, low fat citrus fruit is often associated with the trendy grapefruit diet.
- Brown sugar — A small serving of brown sugar is all you need to add a delicious sweetness to balance the tartness of the grapefruit. The oven will caramelize the brown sugar, and it’s so delicious!
- Cinnamon — Cinnamon pairs perfectly with the brown sugar and grapefruit flavors. Add a sprinkle to the top as the last step.
- Yogurt topping (optional) — To add extra protein to this healthy breakfast recipe recipe, I like to top the grapefruit with vanilla yogurt or Icelandic skyr. Pair with a side of bacon for even more protein! Some may even enjoy a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
How to bake grapefruit in the oven
- First, cut the grapefruit in half and place it on a lined parchment paper.
- Then, cut around each grapefruit section, making sure to loosen the outside edges that touch the peel and also between the sections. This will make the grapefruit easier to spoon out when it’s time to eat it.
- Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon on top of the grapefruit. I like to start with the brown sugar, making sure the grapefruit top is evenly coated from edge to edge. Then, sprinkle a light dusting of cinnamon on top.
- Bake in the oven, and the brown sugar will caramelize to form a nice creme brûlée style topping on the grapefruit.
